BROTHERS AND SISTER TO CHAMPIONS ARRIVE AT WINBAK FARM A brother to 2004 Horse of the Year, Rainbow Blue, a sister to Vivid Photo, 2005 Hambletonian winner, and a half brother to 2003 Horse of the Year and Triple Crown winning pacer No Pan Intended and to Bettor's Delight, 2000 Two-Year-Old- and 2001 Three-Year-Old Colt of the Year - both now stallions - are among the newcomers recently arrived at Winbak Farm in Chesapeake City, Md. SUNDAYS IN MARCH FOR WINBAK FARM OPEN HOUSE SHOWCASE Winbak will showcase its gallery of top stallions that stand at it's state-of-the-art facility in The First State. In addition to seeing the prominent and productive pacing and trotting stallions, Winbak will parade a number of its yearlings that will be sold in the Winbak Farm consignment at leading yearling venues in the U.S. and in Canada this Fall. HITWITHTHELADIES A HIT WITH HIS TRAINER TOO Allan McCarty, a 57-year-old retired lawyer, owns and trains Hitwiththeladies at Buffalo Raceway in upstate New York. The colt was the New York Sire Stakes two-year-old male trotting champ in 2006 when he won eight of 10 starts and earned $195,468. A son of Giant Hit out of the mare Lady Holiday, he was purchased for $12,000 at the Morrisville Sale. FIVE IN A ROW FOR SEANO AT BUFFALO It all started on February 16, when Seano, owned by the Nasty Boys Stable of Buffalo NY, won the lowest condition race offered here at Buffalo Raceway, non-winners of $1,000 last five races, and won by 15 lengths in 2:01.1. WINBAK CLOSES 2007 BOOK FOR ARTISCAPE AND ANGUS HALL Winbak Farm has closed the book for the 2007 breeding season to Artiscape and Angus Hall and says thank you to all who chose these outstanding stallion to be bred to their finest broodmares. CR KINETIC MOVES TO GOLDEN CROSS FARM CR Kinetic, a 9-year-old son of Royal Troubador, has taken up residence in Florida at Golden Cross Farm in Ocala., where he was foaled. He had stood in Maryland in 2004 and Maine in 2006. He will stand this season at a fee of $1,500. CR COMMANDOS SWEEP BOTH THE $27,500 OPEN TROT AND THE $23,000 JR. OPEN FEATURES AT DOVER DOWNS Wednesday, Feb. 7 was a big night for the dominant Delaware trotting stallion CR Commando. Both feature race winners were sired by CR Commando. Go Sassy Go scored an impressive 1:56.1 victory in the $27,500 Open trot while Rusty's Biggie won the $23,000 Jr. Open trots impressively in 1:55.3 on a cold night of racing. WINBAK-SIRED PACERS SWEEP $32,500 PREFERRED, $31,000 DELAWARE SPECIAL AND $24,000 OPEN PACE TRIPLE FEATURES AT DOVER DOWNS Monday racing at Dover Downs is the top weekday program in racing. On Jan. 8, Lather Machine, Art Director and Next Flight won the three feature races while other Winbak-sired winners excelled on the top race card. WINBAK STALLIONS PROGENY START NEW YEAR WITH BIG WINS Top class horses sired by leading stallions standing at Winbak Farm scored big wins on a strong New Year's Day card at Dover Downs. ARTISCAPE COLTS OLAY OLAY, LIVESTRONG WIN NJSS FINALS; MALABAR MAN TROTTERS HOT AT FREEHOLD Two- and three-year-olds by Artiscape continue to standout in New Jersey Sires Stakes (NJSS) action at Freehold Raceway. On Sept. 23, the unbeaten colt Olay Olay made it sixth consecutive wins as Hall of Famer Cat Manzi drove the Artiscape youngster to a 1:55.4 triumph in to win the $85,000 NJSS Two-Year-Old Final for owner Wayne Whebby. Another Artiscape colt B Smart (Yannick Gingras) finished third. Angus Hall juveniles came through with three $34,270 Ontario Sire Stakes (ONSS) Gold elimination division wins and another in a $37,975 ONSS freshman colt elim over the weekend. ARTISCAPE FILLIES WIN 2- AND 3-YEAR-OLD GREEN ACRES FINALS Daughters of Artiscape reigned supreme in both the $35,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes (NJSS) Green Acres finals for two- and three-year-olds at Freehold Raceway on Sept. 21. WINBAK-SIRED TROTTERS SCORE BIG WINS IN CANADA, NEW JERSEY Winbak-sired trotters Angus Hall, Dream Vacation and Malabar Man came up with big wins recently. Laddie won the $525,000 Wellwood Memorial, while Malabar Man and Dream Vacation sophomores record New Jersey wins. BLISSFULL HALL, GIANT HIT, ARTISCAPE, BANKER HALL WIN FINALS Progeny of Winbak stallions enjoyed an outstanding weekend of wins in juvenile stakes finals in the U.S. and in Canada. Several Winbak-sired contenders tuned up for the upcoming New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) championships at Saratoga Raceway on Sept. 16. In New Jersey, a Dream Vacation trotter and Artiscape pacer collected Grassroots wins. Each September, the harness racing spotlight shifts to Ontario for a gala group of major stakes. On Sept. 9, the Angus Hall four-year-old Peaceful Way, the only distaff in a standout field, turned in an overpowering 1:53.3 victory to win the prestigious $877,500 Maple Leaf Trot. The transitional period of the last week of August until Labor Day proved a winning atmosphere for several stallions based at Winbak Farms in Canada and the U.S. Pacing sires by Artiscape and Dream Away and trotting stallions Angus Hall and CR Renegade notched big triumphs. Artiscape, Blissfull Hall, Dream Away, Rustler Hanover and Badlands Hanover led Winbak pacing stallions and elite Ontario stud Angus Hall trotters, came through with impressive wins during the final weekend of August 2006 in major events. A trio of Angus Hall sired youngsters were at the top of their game in Ontario Sire Stakes (ONSS) Gold Series events in Canada on Sunday, Aug. 20. Majestic Son, who was almost scratched before his the $130,000 ONSS Gold Three-Year-Old Colt Trot Final, breaking the all-age track record with a 1:55 victory. Australian Stock also won an ONSS Gold Filly Trot Final and frosh filly Caught My Eye won ONSS Gold at Rideau Carlton Raceway. Winners of important tests in Canada and Maryland have a strong link to Winbak Farm. CR Commando, Badlands Hanover and Powerful Toy continued the Winbak Farm stallions success story sweeping all four $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) finals on a hot late Thursday, July 27 Governor's day at the Delaware State Fair program at Harrington Raceway. This Fall, Winbak will sell its most impressive roster of yearlings at eight leading sales venues. All Winbak yearlings are nominated to the Grand Circuit and to the Sires States program in the state or province where the yearling's stallion stands. Med Vac, a son of CR Commando, who stands at Winbak of Delaware, won for the $15,000 Preferred Handicap Trot for the third consecutive week on July 19 at Monticello Raceway. For the second time since 2003, a son of Pacific Fella stands atop the weekly standardbred rankings. Following in the footsteps of No Pan Intended, voted Horse of the Year after his dynamic three-year-old season, this year, another Pacific Fella progeny, Artistic Fella, has been the dominant sophomore in the sport. WINBAK CONNECTIONS WIN-PLACE-SHOW IN $175,000 NEW JERSEY FINAL Artistic Fella, Feelin Friskie and Pownal Bay Matt finished 1-2-3 in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes (NJSS) Three-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Final at the Meadowlands on June 24 with all three having strong Winbak Farm connections. ARTISCAPE TWO-YEAR-OLDS HIGHLIGHT NEW JERSEY SIRE STAKES Two-year-olds sired by Artiscape, who now stands at Winbak of New York, won three of the five New Jersey Sire Stakes (NJSS) divisions on June 21 at the Meadowlands. In the first $49,625 division, the first three finishers were all sired by a Winbak stallion. ARTISCAPE FRESHMEN STAR IN MEADOWLANDS DEBUTS A son and daughter of Artiscape, who now stands at Winbak of New York, turned in impressive and fast victories at the Meadowlands on June 13 in the two non-wagering races for two-year-old pacers going for $5,000 purses. Both Artiscape winners are conditioned for productive Delaware-based trainers. COOL FLYING FUN SETS A TRACK MARK AT ROSECROFT Nick Callahan's Cool Flying Fun ($9.60, $5.40, $4.00) lowered the Rosecroft Raceway track record for older pacing stallions by winning, in 1:504, an $11,300 Preferred on Tuesday evening. WINBAK PROSPERS ON TWO CONTINENTS Over the long U.S. Memorial day weekend period, two stallions standing at Winbak of New York and another who doing double-hemisphere duty in New York and in New Zealand, won the top purse events in the U.S. and Down Under. Other Winbak stallions also had impressive winners. MINI FILLY BORN Winbak Farm would like to welcome a miniature baby into the world! A mini-filly was born at 2:30am on Thursday, May 25th. The sire is Native Star and the dam is Mystery Muncher. WINBAK-SIRES WIN ON TWO HEMISPHERES Winbak Farm sires continue to perform at a high level, both in North America and Down Under. Heather's Dream, a daughter of Dream Vacation, who stands at Winbak of New York, is the 2006 winner of the prestigious event. Bred, owned and trained by Ivan Sugg, Heather's Dream won the first important three-year-old filly trot of the season as David Miller piloted a 2:00.2 victory. Miller also drove Mike Steffens' Artiscape distaff Set To Star to a 1:56.4 win. Another Winbak bred, Vegas Style won a filly and mare feature in 1:56.4. Winbak-sired pacers and trotters continued to excel in recent feature races. TOY DRAGON SETS WORLD RECORD FOR OLDER MARES Winbak Farm's Toy Dragon set a world record for older mares on a half-mile racetrack Tuesday at Harrington Raceway with a 1:52 win in the $15,000 Filly and Mare Open. Artistic Fella, winner of two straight, including his elimination division, has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite in Saturday night’s $225,000 Berry’s Creek at the Meadowlands. Artistic Fella and Real Mean Art won their respective elimination races on Saturday night and will be joined by eight others who advance to the $225,000 Berry's Creek Final on May 6 at the Meadowlands. RUSTLER HANOVER COLT- ALASTOR HANOVER-SET FOR BERRY'S CREEK Alastor Hanover completed the year winning 10 of his 15 seasonal starts highlighted by wins in all but two of the 10 Ontario Sire Stakes (ONSS) events. Alastor Hanover's two-year-old season was topped off by victory in the $300,000 ONSS Super Final. His one-season bankroll was $446,810. WINNING OWNERS HAPPY TO SUPPORT SRF Winbak Speed splashed to victory in the $30,000 Standardbred Retirement Foundation Pace on Saturday at The Meadowlands. WINBAK-SIRED DISTAFFS SWEEP THREE FASTEST DOVER FEATURES Female pacers with a Winbak Farm connection continue to thrive racing at Dover Downs this season. For a three-month period, Toy Dragon and Shake Away won nine consecutive Filly and Mare Open pace feature races. Both were bred and sold as yearlings by Winbak Farm. Western City, another Winbak-bred mare, then picked up where the other left off winning feature races. SELF PROFESSED WINS THE SU MAC LAD SERIES FINAL Although he was purchased for the long term, Self Professed provided a quick return when he won the $126,500 Su Mac Lad Series Final on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. WINBAK-SIRED CONTENDERS DOMINATE FOUR $100,000 DELAWARE STAKES Winbak-sires dominate the four $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) championship finals on Thursday, April 13 at Dover Downs. Of the 32 starters who qualified for the finals for colt and gelding and filly three-year-old pacers and trotters, 27 are by pacers Badlands Hanover and Powerful Toy and by trotting stallion CR Commando. THREE WINBAK-SIRED FEATURE RACE WINNERS AT DOVER DOWNS A son of Three Wizzards, one by Artiscape and a CR Commando filly trotter, All progeny of stallions standing at Winbak Farm made it to the winner's circle in three of Dover Downs feature events on Sunday, April 9. WINBAK-SIRED THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES CONTINUE SWEEP AT DOVER The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) continued on Wednesday, April 5 and Winbak-sired three-year-old filly pacers dominated both $15,000 preliminary division with Tony Morgan, North America's leading dash-win driver winning each of the events. BADLANDS HANOVER LEAD WINBAK-SIRED SOPH SWEEP AT DOVER DOWNS A pair of sons of Badlands Hanover reached the winner's circle when the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Three-Year-Old division reached its second and last preliminary round. All 16 participants are sired by a Winbak of Delaware stallion. A BIG THURSDAY FOR WINBAK-SIRED SOPHS AT DOVER DOWNS Winbak-sired sophomores continue to excel in the opening round of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) preliminaries at Dover Downs with four making the winner's circle in the four $15,000 first-round divisions for three-year-old trotters. All but two of the three-year-old starters are by CR Commando. WINBAK-SIRED PACERS DOMINATE 1ST LEG DSBF PRELIMS AT DOVER DOWNS The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund Three-Year-Old preliminaries were underway at Dover Downs with four $15,000 first-round divisions. Again, a predominant number of participants in the First State events are sired by Winbak Farm of Delaware stallions. A 'BLISSFUL DAY' AT MONTICELLO RACEWAY FOR WINBAK FARM Monday, March 27 was truly a "blissful" day at Monticello Raceway. Two of the winning horses have bliss in their names, Blissfull Bambi and Bliss N Vinegar, both daughters of Blissful Hall, who is managed by Winbak Farms and stands at Nandi Farm in Pennsylvania. In Canada, Outlawed Beauty, a four-year-old mare pacer ,made a big statement for Maryland breeding. WINBAK-SIRED FEAST IN CANADIAN FEATURES Two of the three winning horses in the Boden Park eliminations at Northlands Park in Alberta province, Canada are sired by Badlands Hanover and Dream Away, who stand at Winbak Farm locations. WINBAK CONNECTIONS SWEEP DOVER DOWNS HEADLINERS Badlands And Art, Victor Vuitton N and Pacific Philly won the top three events on the Dover Downs' Thursday, March 23 card. WINBAK-SIRED 4-YEAR-OLDS SWEEP BOTH DAMSEL SERIES PRELIMS AGAIN For the second straight week, both $35,000 Damsel Pacing Series divisions were won by daughters of stallions standing at Winbak Farms. This week, Outlawed Beauty won again, while Dreamless Hall scored her first victory in respective second leg divisions on Sunday afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack. WINBAK SIRED FEMALE PACERS CONTINUE TO MAKE THEIR MARK A daughter of Dream Away and one sired by JK Outlaw turned in gutsy performances to win respective $35,000 divisions of the Damsel Series at Woodbine Racetrack, Canada's premier raceway, on Sunday, March 12. Western City, boasting one of the sport's most regal pedigrees, continued the Winbak Farm impact on the top distaff event of the week at Dover Downs. On Tuesday, March 7, the distinguished five-year-old whose dam is the outstanding performer and matron Rodine Hanover, won the $20,000 Mares Jr. Open pace at Dover Downs. Every week dating back to early December 2005, a mare bred by Winbak Farm or sired by a Winbak stallion has won the Tuesday feature at the track. TOY DRAGON DOMINATES AT DOVER It was all Toy Dragon in a featured $26,000 Mares Open Handicap pace on Tuesday, February 28 at Dover Downs. BADLANDS HANOVER-SIRED WIRELESS HANOVER WINS DOVER OPEN A cold and windy night couldn't stop Wireless Hanover from scoring a wire-to-wire 1:53.3 triumph in the $24,000 Four-Year-Old Open Handicap pace on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Dover Downs BLISSFUL HALL: AN ATTENTION GETTER The Blissful Hall filly Armbro Dancer has changed hands and trainers preparing for the 2006 stakes season. Last year at two, Armbro Dancer set a world record of 1:52.3 at the Meadows and then went on to win the Matron Stakes Final at Dover Downs. She won five times with three seconds and a third in only 10 starts while earning $180,000. WINBAK CONNECTIONS- SHAKE AWAY, RC DESTINY -SHARE DOVER DOWNS WINNER'S SPOTLIGHT It was déjà vu in the Tuesday, Feb. 21feature at Dover Downs. Two Winbak-bred distaffs squared off in a rematch in the $26,000 Mares Open Handicap pace, Toy Dragon, winner by a nose the week before after a torrid stretch battle, and fast-finishing Shake Away. On Wednesday, RC Destiny was never headed in a convincing victory in the $26,000 Open Handicap trot. Toy Dragon turned out to be the Valentine's Day Queen at Dover Downs on Feb. 14. Bred and leased by Joe and JoAnn Thomson, the five-year-old mare turned in one of the most impressive wins of the early year beating another Winbak Farm-bred fast female, Shake Away by a nose in 1:51 to win the $26,000 Mare Open Handicap feature. BEHIND THE SCENES WITH MATT HARRISON Matt Harrison won't have much time to settle into his new role at Winbak Farm - he arrived in New York over the weekend and has hit the ground running. Harrison has just returned from a four and half month stint as the reproductive manager for Alabar Bloodstock in New Zealand. VIVID PHOTO AND PEACEFUL WAY WIN DAN PATCH AWARDS Vivid Photo and Peaceful Way came away with Dan Patch honors at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Vivid Photo ran away with the award for Three-Year-Old Trotting Colts and Geldings, while Peaceful Way took the honor for Older Trotting Mares. TOY DRAGON ROARS IN DOVER FEATURE Toy Dragon and driver Steve Warrington forged back to the front in the stretch and held on to win by a nose in the $24,000 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap at Dover on Tuesday. VESTA BLUE CHIP FOAL BORN Winbak Farm was proud to welcome a Vesta Blue Chip foal into the world on the evening of February 2nd, 2006. The healthy filly was born at around 8:30 pm. The Winbak Farm-bred mare overpowered a strong field of seven fast rivals turning in the fastest victory of the early New Year. Jim King drove the Dream Away -Shake Rattle Run mare to an easy 1:51 victory, only three-fifths of a second off the world and track record for an older mare of 1:50.2 established in 2000 by then Horse of the Year Bunny Lake.
