Born to Compete...
Two Winbak Farm stallions, Holy Guacamolie and Island Fantasy, stand in Indiana. They stand at Hickory Ridge Farm, which is located in Berne, Indiana. The farm is located six miles from Ohio, an hour and a half from Michigan, and two hours from Indianapolis. Hickory Ridge Farm offers on-farm artificial insemination as well as shipped cool semen. They can also evaluate incoming semen in-house. The farm offers many different service options for broodmares, including being able to follow a mare through her heat cycle and breeding her with cooled or frozen semen. The farm will track the mare’s heat cycle through daily ultrasounds and rectals.
Dr. Larry Smith, owner of Hickory Ridge Farm, received his veterinary degree from Purdue University and has been practicing for 32 years as well as being involved in the harness racing business for an equal amount of time. Dr. Larry enjoys working with problem breeding mares. He carries out pre-breeding evaluations on mares that have trouble conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term. From that point, Dr. Larry works with his clients to decide whether uterine treatments or embryo transfers are best for the mare.
