Wilkes-Barre, PA — Blank Stare, a New York Sire Stakes champion in 2020, finally broke through after a series of close finishes to post his first 2021 victory, a 1:51.3 win in a $15,300 co-featured event on Tuesday afternoon (June 22) at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Im A Gigolo N took the day’s top pacing field past the quarter in :27.3 and then yielded to Tell Them Lou before the :55.3 half. Blank Stare remained fourth, directly behind Cigar Smoking Tony, as that one started first-over past mid-backstretch and challenged the leader by the 1:24 three quarters. In the stretch, Cigar Smoking Tony ground down Tell Them Lou, but then could not resist the relentless gain of Blank Stare, who defeated Cigar Smoking Tony by a head. Tell Them Lou finished third.

Driver Tyler Buter and trainer John Butenschoen teamed up with the 4-year-old Bolt The Duer gelding for the Harmony Oaks Racing Stable, James Crawford IV and In Over My Head Stable.

As hard-fought as the top pace was, the co-featured trot was a piece of cake for the 3-year-old Deweycheatumnhowe gelding Dewey Arnold, who headed down the road and never looked back, lowering his record to 1:53 despite off going. Dewey Arnold now has seven wins in 11 seasonal starts for trainer David Dewhurst, who shares ownership with Philip Hale.

Dewey Arnold’s driver, Jason Bartlett, led the Pocono colony on Tuesday with four wins.
