On September 26th, Winbak Farm of Canada hosted the second annual Ontario Select Yearling Sale.

“We are ecstatic with the results from the sale,” said Pat Woods, Sale Manager. “On behalf of the sale company’s owners, Joe and JoAnn Thomson, the sale team and myself, I would like to thank each of our consignors, yearling inspectors, bidders and buyers for the support."

Consignors that sold yearlings included Erinwood Equine, Joe Hudon, Preferred Equine, Princeton Farms, Tri Star Farms, Twinbrook Farms and Winbak Farm.

“We sold 119 yearlings for an average of close to $20,000 and 43 of those yearlings sold for $20,000 or more,” said Woods. “We believe that having both virtual and in-person options for bidding allowed people to choose their personal best option."

The sale topper was Hip #15, Muscling Vegas, a Muscle Mass filly that was consigned by Twinbrook Farms and sold to Christopher Storms of Picton, Ontario, for $75,000. Another highlight was Hip #102, Extreme Force, a Bettor’s Delight colt that was consigned by Twinbrook Farms and sold to Sylvain Descheneaux with Ecurie CSL for $72,000.

From sires that sold 5 or more yearlings, the leading pacing stallion was Shadow Play with 10 sold at an average of $25,000  and the leading trotting stallion was My MVP with 7 sold at an average of $24,500. This is the first crop of Ontario-sired yearlings from My MVP. Both stallions stand at Winbak Farm of Canada.

“We look forward to seeing our yearling purchasers in the 2022 Winner’s Circle,” said Woods. “We wish everyone the best of luck."
