The seven-year-old Sportswriter stallion Jimmy Freight finished first again at Woodbine Mohawk Park’s top class as he collected his third consecutive victory in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap when winning in 1:50.2 on Saturday (April 16).
On this occasion, driver Louis-Philippe Roy placed the Richard Moreau trainee on the point and pressed forward. Under minimal pressure, Jimmy Freight strolled through fractions of :27.3, :56 and 1:24 with stablemate Wheels On Fire in close pursuit from the pocket. But off that mild tempo, Jimmy Freight fired for home with a :26.2 final quarter to finish 1-3/4 lengths better than Wheels On Fire. Commanding Officer finished third, beaten another five lengths, with Sintra settling for fourth.
Owned by Adriano Sorella, Jimmy Freight has amassed $1,594,125 from 67 starts, with Saturday’s victory being his seventh win on the season and his 28th overall. He paid $3.90 to win.
