Camluck Classic champion Jimmy Freight, the winner of six consecutive races dating back to March, on Tuesday added to his accomplishments this year by topping the first Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll of 2022.

“Jimmy Jets,” a seven-year-old male pacer who has won 10 of 16 starts overall this season, received 12 of 35 first-place votes and totalled 241 points to claim the No. 1 position.

Six-year-old male trotter Ecurie D DK, who last month won the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial with a world record performance in his only start this year, was second in the rankings. Ecurie D DK also received 12 first-place votes, but trailed Jimmy Freight by 21 points in the poll, with a total of 220.

Juravinski Memorial Cup winner Linedrive Hanover, a four-year-old male pacer, was third with 137 points while Maxie Lee Memorial winner Lovedbythemasses, a five-year-old male trotter, was fourth with 135. Rounding out the top five was MGM Borgata Series champion Funatthebeach N, an eight-year-old male pacer who leads the sport with $412,267 in purses, with 115 points.

A total of 49 horses received at least one point in the season’s first poll.

The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, which runs through the completion of the Grand Circuit season, does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.
