ery next race meeting on Monday, December 17th, 2012, at Sydney's harness racing home, Bankstown Paceway, will be renamed Washakie Race Day in honour of the greatest Group 1 Treuer Memorial winner of all time - a harness racing legend, an immortal," Bankstown Paceway director Andrew Ho announced today (Monday December 3)

"Last Saturday, December 1, 9-year-old New Zealand-born Australian bay gelding Washakie NZ (the son of Badlands HanoverUSA and Shoshoni Sunrise NZ), owned by Western Australians Kevin Jeavons, Gino Monaco and Lindsay Severn, and trained and driven by John McCarthy, claimed an unprecedented fourth consecutive win in the M. H. Treuer Memorial (Group 1) Harness Race," Ho said.

"The power house horse of harness racing made his move in the final lap of the race - moving from last to first place - to claim a 7.4 metre win over Dubbo's Karloo Mickand Condell Park's Glengowan," he said.

"Washakie's time of 3.05.7 for the 2,540 metre race - with a mile rate of 1:57.7 - was both a new race record and a new track record for Bankstown Paceway. The previous record was held by the legendary Christian Cullen who went 3.06.1 for the same distance in the same race in 1998. That was a 1:57.9 mile rate. ‘Washakie's fourth Treuer win was also his fiftieth lifetime win and took his stake earnings to close on $1.7 million.

"Former Treuer Memorial winners Blacks A Fake, Our Sir Vancelot and Westburn Grant have all laid claim to a record ten Australasian Grand Circuit race wins, but none of these great heroes of standardbred racing have tasted the sweetest victory of winning the same annual event for four consecutive years in a row.

‘Membership of the four-in-a-row club of pacing immortality is limited to just two Australian-born stallions: Pure Steel, who won the Western Australian Pacing Cup each year from 1977 to 1980, andGammalite, who repeated that feat with his South Australian Cup wins from 1982 to 1985.

"In claiming a fourth Treuer trophy last Saturday, December 1st,Washakie immediately joins Pure Steeland Gammalite as a pacing immortal," Ho added.

Washakie Race Day will be held at Sydney's harness racing home, Bankstown Paceway, on Monday, December 17th, 2012, with the first race scheduled to start at 1.04 pm.
