Malak Uswaad N, driven by Brian Sears, was able to get off the seasonal schneid Saturday night in winning Yonkers Raceway's $44,000 Open Handicap Pace, but that mile was later overshadowed.

Leaving into a two-hole from post position No. 3, Malak Uswaad N saw Dream Out Loud N (Eric Goodell) waltz to the half with intervals of :27.1 and :57.1. The Real One (Pat Lachance) then moved from fifth, while 3-4 favourite P H Supercam (Jason Bartlett) was having a hard time tracking that one.

Dream Out Loud N maintained a tenuous lead passing the 1:25 three-quarters and into the lane, but grudgingly giving way. Malak Uswaad N went inside and went by, a length better than an involved-late P H Supercam in 1:52.3. Dream Out Loud N held the bottom of the ticket, with The Real One and Pancetta (Jordan Stratton) settling for the remainder.

Second choice Malak Uswaad N, a six-year-old Down Under son of Bettors Delight owned and trained by Peter Tritton, returned $11 for that first win in 21 '14 tries. The exacta paid $31,20, with the triple returning $102.

Later during the card, Sunfire Blue Chip (Bartlett) matched the fastest local mile ever, winning the $26,000, 11th race pace in 1:50.2. The four-year-old son of American Ideal now joins Fat Mans Alley and Sapphire City for swiftest mile and owns all by his lonesome the record for his weight class as well as speediest effort of 2014.

Jimmy Takter trains Sunfire Blue Chip for his wife Christina, John And Jim Fielding of Scarborough, Ont., Brixton Medical Ab of Matawan, New Jersey, and R A W Equine Inc. of Burlington, Ont.

Note that no one took down the Saturday night Pick 5, so Monday’s wager begins with a carryover of $3,340.32.
