>Rookies Battle In DSBF Elims

Six $20,000 divisions of the second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes for pacers were contested Monday at Harrington Raceway.

The fastest winner came in the 10th race when Legacy Racing of Delaware, Niel Gargiulo and Louie Paglierani’s Powerful Mist ($2.10, Jim Morand) scored his second straight win in DSBF elim action with a 1:55.2 triumph. The Powerful Toy colt improved to 5-for-9 lifetime for trainer Wayne Givens.

Joining Powerful Mist among those sweeping their elims was Badlands Racing and George Teague’s Three Martinis ($2.10, Montrell Teague), who prevailed again in 1:56. The Three Olives colt is also trained by co-owner George Teague.

Another short priced winner came in the final division as Donna Sullivan’s Dyslexic ($2.10, George Dennis) was a 1:57.1 victor for his first career win for trainer Scott Gregoire.

Meanwhile, there were two fillies that swept their elims, including Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm’s Badlands Jenna ($2.80, Ben Stafford, 1:56.4) and Joann Looney-King’s Allie Oakley ($2.80, Tim Tetrick, 1:57). Badlands Jenna is trained by Ben Stafford, while Allie Oakley is conditioned by Jim King, Jr.

Winbak Farm and John Wagner’s Devil May Care ($14.20, Victor Kirby) won the remaining division for trainer John Wagner in 1:57.1.

The $100,000 DSBF finals will be raced October 25.
