Track Operating Subsidy, Government Oversight Step Closer To Reality In Maryland

According to a report, racetracks in Maryland are now a step closer to getting a state subsidy for operating costs, but legislators opposed to such a move got pretty figurative about the situation yesterday.

An article by hometownannapolis.com explains that the state's House of Delegates advanced a bill on Monday, March 28 that will see the five racetracks in the state be able to transfer monies earmarked for capital improvements re-routed for day-to-day operating costs.

The report states that lawmakers in the house want the track operators to submit business plans and open their books to a state panel.

Commenting on the situation, House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell had some choice words. "Any time the chief executive of this state is put over a barrel by an industry, we're going to be requested to support that industry."
