Four DSBF male prelims top Thursday's Dover card
Dover, DE --- The second of two 3-year-old colt and gelding preliminary legs of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund are set with four $20,000 divisions on Thursday (April 7) at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Last week, Powerful Mist and Three Martini’s had little trouble turning in impressive wins in their respective pacing divisions while Warrhawk One and First Captain took the trotting sections. This week, several of the winners square off against each other.
Tim Tetrick drove Powerful Mist to his 10th career win for owners Niel Gargiulo, Louie Paglierani and Legacy Racing of DE, cruising to a 1:54 victory. The same time was recorded when Gunjan Patel, Badlands Racing and George Teague’s Three Martini’s won his division with Montrell Teague for his second win in two outings this season. They will face off this week in race 10 at Dover.
The other starters include Winbak Farm and Ben Stafford’s Lucky Land, driven to a second-place finish last time out by Ben Stafford, Jr.; Conartist Hanover, handled by Eric Goodell for Baron Racing and Glenview Livestock; Dr. Bill Solomon-bred and owned Badlands Challenge reined by Corey Callahan; Green Olives with Art Stafford, Jr., owned by Delauction and Burger Stables; and Callahan Family Farms’ Badley’slastride driven by Greg Callahan.
The other $20,000 male pace is wide open. Donna Rae Sullivan’s Dyslexic (Ross Wolfenden) finished second in his first prelim but must overcome post eight. Onery Inc.’s Princely Assets (Roger Plante) and Powerful Odds, driven by John Wagner, who co-owns with Winbak Farm, are leading contenders.
Mattador D (Jim Morand), owned by Henry Faragalli III, Belle Bauman, Don Doane and Andy Feeney, cannot be overlooked. Jason and Justin Skinner’s Bruce’s Boy (Corey Callahan), Garnet O’Marrow’s Seboomook Boomer, Jeff and Dave Clark’s Kirklands Hanover (George Dennis) and Battery Power (Art Stafford, Jr.), who drew the rail for Delauction and Burger Stables, round out the field.
In the first $20,000 trot prelim, First Captain (Ross Wolfenden), owned by Sharon White, Blake Baker and Legacy Racing of DE, and Warrhawk One, owned by driver Vic Kirby and Erica Brittingham, are fresh for wins last week. Larry and Barbara Mayer’s Mob Boss (Bret Brittingham) closed to within a head, finishing second a week ago.
Horton Who (Roger Plante), who races for Richard Crammer and trainer Bob Reeser; LeBlanc Racing and Winbak Farm’s Obey The Command (Brad Hanners); Big Award, who leaves from the rail for owners Ed Maas, Nanticoke Racing and driver Jim Morand; and Meadow Creek Stable’s All Shoes On Deck (Eddie Davis, Jr.) complete the lineup.
All Clear, a second-place finisher in last week’s prelim, heads the other DSBF trot for owner, trainer and driver Carlo Poliseno.
Smart Strike, owned by Art Stafford and driver Art Stafford, Jr, was third last time. It’s All Good Jack (Eddie Davis, Jr.) drew the rail for Susan Durham and trainer Linda MacDonald. Mr Pete (Roger Plante), owned by Harry and Marilyn Marsh; Call On Me (Kim Vincent) for Country Girl Stables; John Wagner’s Debate; Mario Andrew’s Lead The Way (Bob Shahan); and Tom Haddock’s Go Jojo Go (Brad Hanners) are the other starters.
The top eight point-getters after two prelims return next Thursday (April 14) for two DSBF finals on the meet's closing day.
