>Misti Maiden delivers in Celias Counsel Final

Toronto, ON --- After scoring a victory in her elimination last week, Misti Maiden was pressured for most of the stretch drive in Monday night’s (April 11) Celias Counsel Stakes Final at Woodbine, but she survived the pressure to earn the largest payday of her career.

After being purchased for C$10,000 at the Fall Extravaganza Mixed Sale in late October, the 3-year-old daughter of Angus Hall now has a career bankroll of C$44,080 for owners The Mo N Jo Stable, Peter and Murray Goldberg, and Michael Seidman.

From the start, Momentous and driver James MacDonald quickly rushed out to grab the early lead but would relinquish the top spot to Nuriev Dream at the opening quarter in :29.2. As the sophomore trotters marched towards the half, Misti Maiden evacuated the three hole and rushed to the lead for driver Jack Moiseyev past the second panel in :59.4.

Momentous began the first-over attack around the final turn while Nuriev Dream, who was in the pocket, make a costly break before three-quarters in 1:30.1.

As the field turned for home, Misti Maiden was still in command but the backfield was closing in. Momentous, Savanah Dream (Luc Ouellette) and Magical Paige (Paul MacDonell) were all gaining ground on Misti Maiden. With a sixteenth of racetrack remaining, Moiseyev asked his charge for more trot and she responded to hold off all challengers to win in 2:01.2. Magical Paige closed hard to finish second with Savanah Dream holding off Momentous to finish third.

With the victory, Misti Maiden now has a seasonal record of 2-0-1 from five starts for trainer Frank Coville.
