I Wanna Go Fast sizzles with 1:49.2 mile at Colonial
New Kent, VA --- Aptly named I Wanna Go Fast lived up to his billing by collecting a wire to wire victory in a sizzling 1:49.2 in Sunday’s featured race at Colonial Downs.
The 4-year-old Three Olives gelding, who had not raced since September 5, was coming off a pair of recent qualifying wins at Chester Downs. Facing four other foes in the $6,000 winners-over pace, I Wanna Go Fast got out front early and never looked back, triggering early fractions of :26.2, :54.3 and 1:22.2 before crossing 2-1/4 lengths over Salazar.
Despite three straight wins in this class at Colonial, Salazar was the second betting choice to favored I Wanna Go Fast. Manley Brown’s 5-year-old Mcardle gelding was last thru the third fraction before making a move, but fell short in his bid for a fourth straight triumph.
I Wanna Go Fast missed the track record for 4-year-old gelding pacers by one-fifth of a second. Temptation holds the mark of 1:49.1.
The winner was driven by Chris Page, who completed a stellar weekend with nine wins. Basil Sapienza trains I Wanna Go Fast for Gloria Kinnamon of Dover, Delaware. With his ninth win of 2011, the quick pacer increased his current year bankroll to the $112,000 mark.

Brookroad Knight has cemented himself as the favorite amongst New York Sire Stakes Late Closers in the 2-year-old colt and gelding trotting division following his victory on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The Bruce Borden trained freshman trotter has now won four times in five starts in the Late Closers this season, prevailing convincingly in 2:02.4 on Sunday. Dan Cappello Jr has driven Brookroad Knight (Cr Excalibur) in three of the freshman’s trotting victories. Locally based Toga Town (Conway Hall), with trainer-driver Brian Cross at the controls, came from a long ways back to secure his second seasonal win, stopping the timer in 2:02, the fastest of the day’s three divisions of Late Closers. The final division of the afternoon stakes races was won by New York Attitude (Cash Hall). The John Hallett trained high-stepper was DQ’d into the win after being interfered with by Some Kinda Spunky, who actually hit the wire first. New York Attitude was driven by Stephane Bouchard.
