s a chilly, overcast evening at Woodbine Saturday as nine eliminations decided the final fields for next Saturday’s Breeders’ Crown.

Driver Ron Pierce and trainer Noel Daley’s filly Cedar Dove (Andover Hall) got the night started quickly, establishing a Woodbine track

record with a powerful performance in the three-year-old filly trot. Jezzy (Credit Winner) led the field through the first turn, but a revved up

Cedar Dove would not be restrained and took Pierce to the lead. The swift filly trotted her way through the third quarter in :27.4 en route to an

open-length score in a final time of 1:53.2. Jezzy held strong for place, with Lady Andover (Andover Hall) edging out Crys Dream (Taurus Dream) for show. Oh Sweet Baby rounded out the top-five finishers to advance to next week’s final.

Cedar Dove, a daughter of Andover Hall-Pine For Her, knocked one-fifth of a second off Housethatruthbuilt’s track record for sophomore trotting fillies, set in 2004.

“She did it on her own,” said Pierce. “She was getting a little impatient there in the three hole, so down the back, when we straightened out, I took her out and from there it was just a question of keeping her relaxed and getting around there safely.”

Pierce attributes the fast fractions to a breakdown in communication with his filly.

“I was saying, ‘woah’, and she thought I was saying, ‘go’,” grinned Pierce. “I knew we were going a little too much here, because we have the final next week. She did that all on her own, I was trying to slow her down, but she just wanted to go. You can’t really argue with her too much; you

have to let her do what she wants to do. She’s a funny kind of filly that way.”

Cedar Dove, owned by John Fielding of Toronto and the Adam Victor & Son Stable of New York, paid $4.20 to win.

Ron Pierce quarterbacked a masterful trip for Iron Lady (Taurus Dream) to win the second elimination for three-year-old trotting fillies. Joe Hudon gunned Magic Wheel (Kadabra) to the lead off the gate, as Pierce was content to sit in the pocket with Iron Lady, with E L Glamour (Yankee Glide) and Lady Rainbow (Muscles Yankee) following their lead through a tepid quarter in :28.

Midway down the backstretch, Scott Zeron pushed the button on Lady Rainbow and attempted to muscle the lead away from a stubborn Magic Wheel, who spurned their advances, and Lady Rainbow went offstride while parked out into the far turn. Magic Wheel led the field into the

stretch, but Hey Mister (Muscles Yankee) took over in midstretch and appeared on her way to victory, only for Ron Pierce to tip Iron Lady, who was full of trot, off the rail and split rivals in a nimble move to win by a neck in 1:55.4.

Hey Mister held on for place in front of Cleopatre Duharas (Cantab Hall). Eagle Canada and Pantholops, who recovered from a break at the start, filled out the top-five finishers.

“I was a little concerned that we weren’t going to shake loose,” said Pierce, who sweeped the filly elims. “She’s a very fast filly, very professional and she had no trouble.”

Iron Lady, who paid $6.40, was bred by Reve Avec Moi who co-own the filly with Jerry and Theresa Silva

Chapter Seven (Windsongs Legacy), bet down from 8-1 on the morning line to the 4-5 favourite, did not disappoint the punters in the first elimination for 3-year-old colts and geldings. Dejarmbro (Credit W inner) commanded the early lead, as Tim Tetrick engineered a pocket trip for Chapter Seven down the back straightaway. Jack Moiseyev sent Daylon Magician (Kadabra) first over from fourth-position initiating a duel with Dejambro that endured the length of the stretch, only for Tetrick to tip out Chapter Seven and take the spoils in the shadow of the wire. Chapter

Seven was clocked in 1:53.2 for the victory. Daylon Magician won the battle with Dejarmbro for place. Spectator K (Conway Hall) and For You Almostfree (Glidemaster) earned the remaining spots in the final.

Linda Toscano, who trains Chapter Seven for Richard Gutnick and Gary Cocco of Pennsylvania, New Jersey's Southwind Farm, and Jerry Silva of New York, was thrilled with her colt’s effort. “He’s never out of steam at the end of a mile, even when he wasn’t a hundred percent.” Said Toscano.

The son of Windsongs Legacy--La Riviera Lindy, who entered the race fresh off a victory in his Bluegrass Series division at Lexington's The Red Mile, is now three-for-seven this year. Chapter Seven paid $3.70 to win.

Aled Hanover (W estern Hanover) was a runaway winner of the second elimination for 3-year-old colts and geldings, perhaps benefitting from an early break suffered by 2-1 morning line favourite Broad Bahn.

Dave Palone steered Big Rigs (Andover Hall) to the lead out of the eight-hole with Whiskey Tax (Revenue S) and Mr Web Page (Muscles Yankee) forming a convoy down the backstretch.

Dave Miller sent Manofmanymissions (Yankee Glide) first up along the straightaway and assumed command to notch three-quarters in 1:25.1, as Broad Bahn (Broadway Hall) was beginning to hit stride, though still trailing the field, and running out of time to make the final.

Manofmanymissions led the field into the stretch, as a pocket-sitting Big Rigs went offstride, and never looked back for a comfortable score over Mr Web Page. Luckycharm Hanover was up for third, just in front of Can Anyone Explain, and a heroic Broad Bahn was all out down the lane to claim the fifth and final spot for the final.

Trainer Erv Miller gave a thumbs-up to Miller’s ambitious

move down the backstretch. “Especially off of those fractions, (Miller) made the right move,” the conditioner said. “That was the right move at the right time.”

Manofmanymissions paid $3.00 to win.
