Harrington, DE --- Four divisions of the Delaware Standarbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) 2-year-old trotting stakes for both sexes were held Sunday at Harrington Raceway.
The fastest divisional winner was the first to take place, as Nanticoke Racing and Delbert Cain’s Alleigh Girl ($2.40, Ross Wolfenden) was a dominant winner on the front-end over Skuttlebutt and Jodi Lin in 2:02.4 to equal the track record for 2-year-old trotting fillies. Alleigh Girl is by Don Boss Vita-Armbro Odalisk. It was one of two wins and a second in DSBF action on the card for trainer Les Givens, who also earned a win in the first trotting colt division with Nanticoke Racing and Ross Wolfenden’s Windshield ($2.10, Wolfenden). Windshield’s win didn’t come without anxious moments as she broke stride at the start but was able to recover and register an impressive 2:04.3 win over Hit Man Lauxmont and Klondike Mike. Windshield, a Political Briefing colt, earned her third win in five career starts.
Marvin Meyer and David Meyer’s Spunky Jack ($2.80, Vince Copeland) was the fastest colt winner, with a wire to wire score in 2:04 over Bold Strike and Take Notice. The Super Punk-My Embrace gelding was never headed in his three length win for trainer Paul Wojtowicz.
Pam Wagner’s Ja’s Charmer ($8, Victor Kirby) won the final division of the night and second for fillies in 2:03.3. The John Wagner-trainee took advantage of an early break from favorite Da Boss Lady to dictate the pace and prevail by three lengths. Da Boss Lady recovered for second, while Melody Luv was third. A daughter of CR Commando-Anastasia J A, JA’s Charmer picked up her second lifetime win.
Delaware’s top sired 2-year-olds will do battle on Monday’s program at Harrington with seven divisions of colt and filly pacers engaging in the first leg of the DSBF stakes.
