ar-old pacing colt Hall Bro lowered the divisional track record with an impressive 1:56.3 maiden-breaking performance in Sunday's leg of the Series Quebecoise at Hippodrome 3R.

 

Stephane Brosseau worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Hall Bro and pulled off a 27-1 upset in the $7,000 series division for pacing colts. He followed favourite Vance Bayama through fractions of :28.4, :58.3 and 1:28 before unleashing a :28.2 final frame to prevail by a head in 1:56.3. The time of the mile shaved three-fifths of a second off the one-week-old track record for freshmen held by this week's third and fourth-place finishers Bali and Atomic Million Am.

 

Owned and bred Ferme Brodeur of Terrebonne, Que., the Blissfull Hall-Turolas Angel colt earned his first win in six career starts. Antonio Valente is the winning trainer.

 

Two-year-old pacing fillies Thrill Chaser and Champagne Shower went back-to-back in series action.

 

Thrill Chaser, a daughter of Rambaran out of Thrillicious, won her division by half a length over Delirium in 2:01 in rein to Sylvain Lacaille for trainer Karen Kroeger and co-owner Gilles Plourde of Gatineau, Que.

 

Denis St. Pierre guided Champagne Shower to a 1:59.2 three and three-quarter length triumph in the other split. Bertrand Ayotte trains the Santanna Blue Chip-Flyingtomoon Rayno miss for owner/breeder Sotirios Anastasopoulos of Sainte-Therese, Que.

 

Maximuscle was also a repeat winner in the series for trotters with a 2:05.4 triumph. Mario Charron steered the front-striding colt to a three and three-quarter length victory over a field full of breakers. Somoli E behaved to earn runner-up honours. The streaking Angus Hall-Iceberg Angus colt, who also boasts a win in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots program, is trained by Eric Valiquette for owner/breeder Ecurie Provoquante of Mirabel, Que.
