Campbellville, ON --- Anndrovette, the two-time defending Roses Are Red champion, and driver Tim Tetrick didn’t disappoint the betting public when they found the winner’s circle in the first of two C$35,000 Roses Are Red eliminations at Mohawk on Saturday night (June 7).

The 4-5 favorite got away third and followed behind fractions of :26.2, :55.2, and 1:22.4, which was set by Shebestingin.

When the field of seven turned for home, Tetrick was able to find racing room and the three-time Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winning mare responded when given open racetrack. Anndrovette got under the wire to win by a quarter of a length in 1:49.3. Summertime Lea got up for second and a surging Shelliscape was third. Shebestingin and Charisma Hanover finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

“I was following two really good mares, Shebestingin on the front, Ronnie’s (Pierce) mare I got a lot of respect for her, Jerseylicious, so I figured I’d get room and be able to race her late,” explained Tetrick. “When I finally did get some room she really charged home. Usually after an effort like that she really responds well the following week.

“I guess she likes the Canadian air,” the reinsman noted. “She loves this place up here (Mohawk) and likes racing. She is tough as nails. She shows up and when the money is down she always seems to show up and give an A plus effort.”

The 7-year-old daughter of Riverboat King-Easy Miss has a lifetime record of 38-15-16 in 96 starts and boasts career earnings of C$2,798,436 for trainer P.J. Fraley and owners Bamond Racing LLC and Joseph Davino.

Anndrovette returned $3.70, $3.20 and $2.80, combining with Summertime Lea ($19.80, $10.20) for a $71.10 (1-5) exactor. A 1-5-6 (Shelliscape, $7.60) triactor was worth $433.70, while a $1 superfecta (1-5-6-3, Shebestingin) paid $740.25.

In the second elimination, the Carmen Auciello-trained Yagonnakissmeornot defeated the heavily favored Somwherovrarainbow by a half-length.

After Voelz Hanover clocked the opening panel in :27.3, Somwherovrarainbow was pulled from the pocket and taken to the front. As they marched past the half in :56.3, driver Ron Pierce and Yagonnakissmeornot had started advancing first up from sixth.

The mares battled past the three-quarter marker in 1:24 and all the way to the wire. Yagonnakissmeornot got there first and stopped the clock in a new mark of 1:50.1. Somwherovrarainbow was second and Krispy Apple finished third. Camille and Rocklamation finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

"Well we got away back,” said Pierce. “They went kind of slow up front. I was a little concerned, but I knew if I could just get her out and feed her some racetrack she would give me a good mile.

"I raced her before when (trainer) George Teague had her and I loved her,” he added. “I learned a lot about her in just one start and I told myself if I ever race her again, that's how I'm going to race her, just like that."

Yagonnakissmeornot notched her eighth win of the year in 16 starts.

"I knew this track would help her a lot,” said Pierce. “I knew she would just eat it up."
