>Harrington, DE --- The 2-year-old Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stakes get underway Monday night (Oct. 7) at Harrington Raceway.

The first leg of the DSBF program will be conducted throughout the week as pacing fillies will race Monday, pacing colts on Tuesday and filly and colt trotters will be in action Wednesday.

Three divisions of filly pacers will start the stakes action Monday night with two races carded on the wagering program, and one slated as an early non-betting event at 4:50 p.m.

The division as a whole appears up for grabs as only six of the youngsters have won races so far. Garnet O’Marrow’s Seboomook Fool Yah (Gamblers Dream) is the morning line favorite in the first wagering event, scheduled as the fourth race. She prevailed with a group of maidens at Harrington on Sept. 12.

I’m Won Rum Wiser (Headmaster) drew post seven but was still installed as the 3-1 morning line choice in the second wagering division as the eighth race on the program for trainer/driver and co-owner George Dennis. She won her only previous race over the track on Sept. 19 for owners George and Tina Dennis Inc. and The Wiz Kids Stable.

The pacing colts will take over on Tuesday with three divisions, one will be in the form of a non-wagering event at 4:50 p.m. Karen Walls’ Elite Awards (Powerful Toy) drew post five and is early 2-1 favorite in the first wagering division, carded as the fourth race. The David Rearic-trainee was an impressive winner from the rail on Sept. 25, joining Cavalli Pazzi Stable’s Casino Bags Carlo (Roddy’s Bags Again) as recent winners in the field for trainer Vince Copeland.

Winbak Farm’s Hawker (Artzina) is widely regarded as the horse to beat in the DE program this year and is the 2-1 favorite in the remaining wagering division (eighth race). He has not been worse than second in four previous starts and was just second in a 1:55 mile over the Harrington half-mile for trainer Jeff Fout.

The trotters will get underway on Wednesday with two non-wagering events beginning at 4:30 p.m. and three wagering splits slated as races 8-10 on the 15-race program.

Only four of the horses in the wagering events have pari-mutuel starts, as Bryan Truitt’s Way Over Paid (Great George Two) drew the rail fresh off a sharp 2:02.4 qualifier and is the morning line choice in the first division for fillies (eighth race).

Kelsey’s Commando (CR Commando) is one of those entered that has started previously and is the early 2-1 choice in the second filly division (ninth race) for trainer Gary Green and owners Richard Lombardo, JJ&M Stable and Pam Wagner. She finished third in two previous stakes events held at Ocean Downs.

In the lone wagering split for trotting colts, Boo’s The Boss (Don Boss Vita) is coming off three qualifiers where he stayed on gait in each for trainer Bob Myers. He will be driven by Allan Davis from post two and is the 2-1 morning line choice.
