CHESAPEAKE CITY — Sometimes you just get bragging rights.

That's the case for Mark Healy, of Earleville, whose name "Lillisbagsrpacked" was chosen by Winbak Farm for its first foal of the new year.

“It took me about five seconds to come up with it,” he said after hearing his entry was chosen for the filly. “I saw the story on CecilDaily.com and I just took the mare's name of Lilli Maid and the sire's name of Roddy's Bags Again and put them together and came up with it. It was the only name I submitted.”

Healy, who worked with his father-in-law on the Bobby Brooks Farm in Chesapeake City, has always been around horses.

“I just gave it a shot," he said. "I think it is pretty neat to be able to say I named a race horse.”

Others name that were submitted included "Frosty Morn," "First Arrival," "Robbys Chillie Lilli," and "Twen T Fourteen" to name a few. Many of the entries played upon the snowstorm and cold weather that accompanied the filly's birth on Jan. 2.

“We had over 230 names submitted to us to choose from," said Elizabeth Lewis-House, public relations manager for Winbak Farm. "Some of the names we will use for other foals with the same breeding lines. I am going to keep the list for future use. There were some really good ones that we can work with.”

Winbak Farm produces about 300 foals a year, and it is a job to name each of them after birth for use in racing. Lillisbagsrpacked will be potentially eligible to race in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund program since her father stands at Winbak Farm of Delaware.
