Freehold, NJ --- Two-time Breeders Crown winner and world champion Shelliscape has been retired and is in foal to stallion Somebeachsomewhere, owner-trainer Jeff Bamond Jr. said Monday. She is expected to be sold at November’s Standardbred Horse Sale, unless a deal is reached with a buyer sooner.

Shelliscape, a 6-year-old daughter of Artiscape-Shell I Scoot, won 16 of 73 races and earned $1.15 million during her career. She was unraced this season.

Originally in the stable of trainer Bob McIntosh, Shelliscape set her career mark of 1:49.1 at age 3 in winning a division of the Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile in 2012. That same year, she won a heat of the Jugette with a world-record 1:50.3 performance at the Delaware County Fair in Ohio. The time remains the fastest-ever mile by a female pacer of any age on a half-mile track.

At 4, she won the Breeders Crown Mare Pace and Allerage Farms Mare Pace and last season she captured her second consecutive Breeders Crown to join stablemate Anndrovette as the only mares to claim trophies in back-to-back years.

“She had a minor injury we thought she could come back from, but we decided it was best to retire her and let her go become a mom,” said Bamond, who with his father Jeff Sr. purchased Shelliscape in September of her 4-year-old season. “We have never been in the broodmare business so we are going to put her in the Harrisburg sale at the end of the season.

“She has always been a great mare, from her 2-year-old season all the way through until the end of her career, which is rare these days. Personally, winning the 2013 and 2014 Breeders Crowns in the styles she did was super impressive and something we will always remember about her.”
