DOVER, Del. --- John’s Dream wins the $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Two-Year-Old Male Pace; Rusty Carter takes $20,000 consolation at Dover Downs on Thursday, Nov. 19.
With a good chance of winning half of the $100,000 purse, owner-trainer Chuck Perry saw Tim Tetrick did not have a drive in the final, gave him the drive and Tetrick and his Dream Away-March On In colt did the rest scoring a 1:52.4 victory in the first of four racing day’s $100,000 DSBF Finals for Delaware-sired freshmen pacers and drivers.
“I was happy to get the drive and I thought the colt was the best in the race,” said Tetrick. Hail To The Master, driven by Art Stafford Jr., finished second ending a two-race prelim win streak. Power To Perform was third for Tony Morgan.
John’s Dream has now won five races in a row of his eight races with two seconds and with the win has banked $102,327 this year.
“I was looking for a well-bred broodmare in foal at the Chick’s Sale in Harrington,” explained Perry. “She was 24-years old and carrying a Dream Away and when she dropped back home, he would be eligible for the Virginia stakes. I named for my young son, that’s where John’s Dream comes from. I knew he was well bred and because of her age, only had to pay $300 to buy her.”
Carter Racing Stable’s namesake Rusty Carter, winner of last month’s DSBF $100,000 Final at Harrington, had to settle for a win in the $20,000 DSBF consolation this time. Corey Callahan guided the altered son of Art Director-Rusty’s Joy to his third win in seven starts for trainer Doug Lewis. JW Renegade (John MacKinnon) was a fast closing second in front of Double Miles (Vince Copeland), third.
Corey Callahan and Tim Tetrick notched four wins during the card. Trainer Dylan Davis and owner Tom Kemp had doubles.
On Monday twin features: the $100,000 DSBF Male Trot Final and Wiggle It Jiggleit leads the $35,000 Hap Hansen Progress Pace elimination.
Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are dark live racing days at Dover Downs. There is no live racing on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
