A compact seven-pack of races faced the gate during the session, and driver Randy Waples led L A Delight out for Race 3.
Waples and the career winner of $704,000 in purses lined up in Post 4, got away well and were first to the quarter pole in a tepid 30 seconds.
Waples geared L A Delight up in the second quarter. The duo expanded their one and a half-length lead to 12 and a half lengths by the time they buzzed the half-mile pole in :57.3.
The lead was 20 lengths by the time Waples and L A Delight scooted past the three-quarters of a mile marker in 1:25.4.
The duo came home with a :28.2 final quarter, were under the wire in 1:54.1 and threw up a 20-length margin of victory for good measure.
After the qualifier, McIntosh told Trot Insider that he was really pleased with L A Delight's mile. He explained that he was looking for a mile in the 1:54 range and with a solid close, and that's exactly what she and Waples delivered.
L A Delight was superb last year as a two-year-old, as she won 11 of her 12 starts. Her most notable victories were in the Eternal Camnation Stakes, Shes A Great Lady Stakes, Champlain Stakes and the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals.
McIntosh co-owns the homebred with the CSX Stables and Al McIntosh.
McIntosh told Trot Insider that if all goes according to plan, he will enter L A Delight to contest Saturday's SBOA Stakes at Mohawk.
Elegant Serenity was in action during the qualifying session for trainer/driver Roger Mayotte. The four-year-old daughter of Kadabra trotted her second qualifying mile of the season and was a wire-to-wire winner in 1:57.1 from Post 2 in Race 7.
O’Brien Award winner Control The Moment – who is also the 3-1 favourite in Trot Magazine’s 2016 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book – made his seasonal charted debut during Race 1. The son of Well Said raced first-over from the backfield in the mile and was right there at the wire when all was said and done. The race was won by Derecho, who stopped the clock in 1:53.4. Control The Moment finished second by a neck.
