Waynesburg, PA --- The freshmen were featured on the opening card of a two-day Pennsylvania Fair Circuit stand at the Greene County Fair on Tuesday (Aug. 9) in this southwestern Pennsylvania town which is famous as being the hometown of the world’s winningest harness driver, Dave Palone.

But Tuesday in Waynesburg, the featured colors were not red and white, but blue and yellow as Steve Schoeffel guided home four winners, two from his own barn and two for trainer Bill Daugherty Jr., as the latter saw his stable sweep the Fair Sire Stakes action for trotting colts.

The winners for Team Daugherty (Susan Daugherty is the owner of both horses) and Schoeffel were the Crazed gelding Everclear Hanover and the Lucky Chucky gelding Rockefeller Lindy, the latter the faster in 2:07.4. It was the first career victory for both of these trotters, but if you had to pick a horse who was likely to show improvement, you could do worse than selecting one of this pair because Daugherty has won four of the last seven Pennsylvania Fair Championships for 2-year-old trotting colts (and then last year even threw in a Championship win with the filly Waterview Hanover).

This Aug. 9 will always be a memorable day for Ryan Harvey, as the 23-year-old scored his first lifetime driving victory behind the Glidemaster trotting filly Famous Mistress, taking the faster of her division’s two sections in 2:06.4 for owner/trainer Lisa Dunn.

Someone watching via remote simulcast must also have had a smile at watching the Dunn

Stable-bred come home first for Ryan, who previously had five on-the-board finishes and has shown the patience necessary at the fairs by getting checks with 16 of 19 starters.

The 3-year-olds take their turn in the Waynesburg spotlight Wednesday, with the first race set to go at 10 a.m. The Waynesburg racers will be cooled out and put away by the time (4 p.m.) that, 358 miles to the northeast, the Wayne County Fair holds the first day of its two-day fair meeting, also featuring the sophomores, and the rare sight of Hannah Miller, 2015 Amateur Driver of the Year, driving a pacer (named Pierce) in the free-for-all event.
