Dover, DE---The photo-finish camera was needed to determine Purrfect Bags the 1:52.2 winner of the $20,000 Filly and Mare Open pace on Tuesday (Nov. 29) at Dover Downs.

After 28-1 shot Elliesjet N (Jonathan Roberts) flew away from the gate to take the lead and continued to lead seven rivals until mid-stretch when both Purrfect Bags (Vic Kirby) and Empress Deo (Allan Davis) zoomed down the lane side-by-side until Purrfect Bags pocked her nose in front at the wire to determine the outcome of the week’s top distaff event.

The Purrfect Bags victory, her ninth of the season in 19 starts with three seconds and three thirds, for owner JoAnn Looney-King, avenged an odds-on favorite loss last week. Tim Tetrick drove the Roddy’s Bags Again-Purrfectly Bad 4-year-old conditioned by meet-leading trainer Jim King. She has now won $129,195 this year and $499,542 lifetime. Empress Deo and Elliesjet N were noses apart in second and third place.

In a pair of $15,500 female sub-features, Enhance Your Mind got up for driver Kirby and owner-trainer Bryan Truitt in 1:52 in the first of the Winners-Over 3,4&5-Year-Old pace with Terror At Night (Jim Morand) and Arts Jem (Tetrick) right behind.

The other section went to David Banks and Layfield Horses’ Sayulita in 1:52.4. Tony Morgan drove the Somebeachsomewhere-Fresh Idea 3-year-old to her sixth win of the year coming from off the pace. Janie Bay (Gingras) was second. Dublin Rose (Corey Callahan) finished third.

Kirby and Gingras had a trio of wins, while Vince Copeland and Ross Wolfenden had two winners each.

Top trotters-Glenferrie Dreamer, Thereademoninme and Il Mago-vie in the Wednesday feature $20,000 Open trot on a 15-race card.

Monday through Thursday, post time is 4:30 p.m. Dover Downs is dark on Fridays. Saturdays and Sundays this meet.
