Berlin, MD --- Due to the weather related cancellation at Ocean Downs on Monday (Aug. 7) the Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes were raced as non-wagering events before Wednesday’s (Aug. 9) card.

There was no surprise in the filly trot as Holy Trout (Holy Guacamolie) closed out her stakes season undefeated with 10 wins. Reinsman Roger Plante Jr. sent Holy Trout wire-to-wire in 2:03 with Spoonful up for second. Steve LeBlanc trains the filly for owner/breeder Dr. William Solomon.

The 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings saw leading driver Russell Foster sit content with Mr Ham Sandwich (Cam’s Rocket) until the five-eighths pole where he pulled and blew by the leader opening up 3-3/4 lengths at the wire in the 1:53.1 mile. Judy Welty trains for owner/breeder Brian Emerson. Almost Cut My Hair was second.

On Sunday (Aug. 6) the 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters took the stage as race two. EI EI O (Cam’s Rocket) with Brian Burton in the bike strutted away from the field, stopping the clock in 1:57.1, 13-plus lengths ahead of Midnight Zette. Richard Hans is the owner/trainer/breeder of the hybrid colt.

The first split for filly pacers went to Diva Demands (Roddy’s Bags again) with Watch What You Say one length back in 1:55.1. Russell Foster was between the wheels for owner/trainer George Leager. Arlene Cameron is the breeder.

Art Stafford Jr. sent Lunar Phase (Roddy’s Bags Again) to the lead and never looked back, taking the second split for the filly pacers in 1:56.4 more than eight lengths ahead of A Lady Sizzling. Art also trains and co-owns the filly with F. Wyatt Starkey. The breeder is William Moffett Inc.
