Sent the odds-on favourite, Ride Away Shark overtook early leader Southwind Ion and maintained a neck advantage at the finish to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Southwind Ion sent for the lead from post six while Ride Away Shark gradually drew towards the leader, clearing past a :28.4 opening quarter. On the lead Ride Away Shark faced no pressure and posted splits of :59.3 and 1:29 while Lady London stalled first over three lengths from the top.

Ride Away Shark drifted off the rail in the stretch as Southwind Ion pulled pocket and edged closer with Pinky Tuscadero sneaking through the inside. However the seven-year-old Classic Card Shark mare held off Southwind Ion to win in 1:59.1 while Pinky Tuscadero finished a length back in third.

Owned by Kim McNiven and Tom Brodhurst, Ride Away Shark won her 23rd race from 146 starts, earning $326,155. Travis Henry drove the $3.80 winner for trainer Scott McNiven.
