Winbak Farm graduates strong in DSBF elims



On July 28, the best Delaware bred three-year-olds will show who really is the best of the best as they come head to head in $100,000 finals during Delaware State Fair at Harrington Raceway. Many of the horses that will be heading in to these finals are Winbak Farm graduates.



The last two weeks Delaware’s finest have battled in $20,000 preliminary races at Harrington Raceway.



On June 22nd, stand-out Delaware bred three-year-old colt pacers competed in DSBF eliminations.



With DSBF champion, Powerful Mist, racing in bigger stakes races, it gave other three-year-old pacing colts their chance to shine.



The George Teague trainee, Three Martini’s, won his elimination in 1:53.2. The son of Three Olives, who was driven by Montrell Teague, led from wire to wire. He now boasts earnings of $152,400. Finishing second to him was another son of Three Olives, Dyslexic. He now has earnings of $98,376.



In the second division, Lucky Land won in 1:56.3 for driver Ben Stafford Junior. He is trained and owned by Ben Stafford. He now has earnings of $66,740. Finishing second to him was another son of Badlands Hanover, Bradley’slastride. Finishing third was a son of Powerful Toy, Princely Asset. 



On June 21rst, the best three-year-old pacing fillies in Delaware competed for their chances to race in the finals.



In the first elimination, Badlands Hanover dominated. As expected, Badlands Jenna won the race. The daughter of Badlands Hanover is trained by Ben Stafford, was driven by Ben Stafford Jr, and is owned by Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm. She won in 1:56.1 and increased her earnings to $251,062. Winsmith Jess and What Rusty, both sired by Badlands Hanover, finished second and third to the proven DSBF champion.



In the second elimination, Sarah Barracuda (sired by Three Olives) was named winner for driver Tony Morgan. She is trained by Jim King Jr. and owned by Joann Looney-King. She now has earnings of $56,004. Perec, who crossed the finish-line first, was placed second after interference at the three-quarter pole. Perec is a daugher of Badlands Hanover. Finishing third in the race was Stash The Cash, she is a daughter of Shotgun Scott.



On June 19th, Harrington watched as Delaware’s best three-year-olds trotters battled for their last chance to be in the $100,000 finals. 



Stand-out three-year-old colt trotter, Obey The Command, once again showed the dominance his sire, CR Commando, has had on the Delaware Stakes Program. He won the fastest of two three-year-old colt DSBF eliminations in a new lifetime best 2:00.2 by two and a quarter lengths. It was the fifth lifetime win for the trotter, who now has earnings of $84,532.  He was driven to victory by Tony Morgan, is trained by Steve La Blanc, and is owned by Winbak Farm and Leblanc Racing. 



Another CR Commando stand-out is Overnight Command. She won the fastest of two $20,000 three-year-old filly trot divisions in a lifetime best of 1:59. She now has earnings of $176,625. The filly also won her elimination last week. Finishing second and third in her division respectively were Tokyo Oklahoma (sired by CR Commando) and Now Virginia (sired by Political Briefing).



In the second division of the three-year-old filly trot DSBF, Political Starlet found her stride and won by a head in 2:02.4 for driver Ross Shand, boosting her earnings to $115,647. The daughter of Political Briefing is trained by Tui Stone and owned by Serendipity Stables (who also bred the fine filly).



Also, in one of the non stakes races of the card, Celii N, sired by Winbak sire Badlands Hanover, won the Delaware Owned/Bred Claiming for $10,000 in 1:54 for his owner Gregory Davis. He is trained by Dylan Davis. He now has earnings of $162,502.
