Ocean Downs opens 2011 season



Berlin, MD --- Ocean Downs kicked off its first night of the 40-day harness meet on Sunday (June 19) with four divisions in the Bob Mitchell Memorial.



Prayer Answered with trainer/driver Greg Callahan was the fastest of the four splits. The 5-year-old Badlands Hanover mare stopped the timer at 1:57.3. Prayer Answered is owned by Callahan Family Farms LLC. Donnie Russell’s Whos Up Whos Down finished second while Harry Landy with Rachel Cuheno finished third.



In the second division there was a slight upset posted as Nuts And Jolts went wire-to-wire for driver Mark Gray in a time of 1:58.2. The win gave the 3-year-old Village Jolt filly her second win in nine seasonal starts. Badlands Style, driven by Jonathan Roberts, finished in second place and Rhea Nourrir, driven by Donnie Russell, finished third.



In the third division, Dutch’s Gal, driven by Wayne Long and trained by Josh Green, tripped the timer in 1:59.4, pushing her seasonal earnings over $21,000. Barking Mad finished second and La Shark Hanover finished third.



In the fourth and final division Quiet Judy, trained and driven by Mark Gray, came off the pace with a 1:59.1 victory. The 5-year-old Yankee Kick mare is owned by Florence Nitkowski.



Racing will resume Monday night (June 20) at 7 p.m.
