Hammer Horses Star At Honesdale
The Wayne County Fairgrounds in Honesdale, Pennsylvania hosted freshman in Pennsylvania Sire Stake action to conclude a two-day meet.
In the first of three colt trots, Roger Hammer guided his own Avenue Of Dreams to a wire-to-wire victory. The Broadway Hall colt won for the first time in his career by trotting in 2:07.3.
The second division was won by Sharpshooter G, owned by the Dunn Stable and trained by Boots Dunn. Hammer was in the bike, as the Broadway Hall colt lowered his lifetime mark to 2:07.4.
The final colt trotting event was won by Ibanez, a Wonder Dancer gelding. Owned by trainer Eileen Lineweaver along with Ellen Warren, Ibanez was driven by Winston Lineweaver. The winning time was 2:07.3.
Two $5,994 divisions of the two-year-old filly trot were up next, and the Hammer/Dunn combination returned to the winner's circle with Barefoot Brook in the first split. The Cantab Hall filly scored in 2:08.4 for her second consecutive win.
Todd and Christine Schadel’s Cantab Cabela earned her first career win in the second division, timed in 2:07.1. Todd Schadel trains and was in the bike behind the Cantab Hall filly.
In the day’s first pacing event, a PASS two-year-old filly stake, Laundress Hanover (Allamerican Native), trained and reined by Wayne Long, was a 2:04.2 winner. Long co-owns with Joyce Lineweaver.
The second filly pacing division was won by Caribe, owned, trained and driven by David Brickell. The Yankee Cruiser filly, now a three-time winner on the year, paced in 2:06.
In the final filly pace, Nuclearccino, who had finished second four times in five career starts, earned her first victory, pacing in 2:06.2. Roger Hammer owns and trains the Nuclear Breeze filly, while Drew Chellis picked up the winning drive on his hometown track.
Colt pacers completed the day, and Summer Foolery took on all challengers in the first division. Owned and driven by Chris Shaw, Summer Foolery went wire-to-wire in 2:09 despite being challenged every step of the way by horses on the outside. Jason Shaw trains the I Am A Fool colt.
The second division went to yet another Hammer horse, as he guided Nucular Enemy to his first career win. The Nuclear Breeze colt covered the mile in 2:06.2.
Hammer then ended the day by guiding Nate Breeze to a 2:04.1 win. The Nuclear Breeze colt, owned by Hammer along with Vicki Fair, is now a four-time winner in just seven career starts.
