World record performance in Maryland Sire Stakes final



Berlin, MD --- A new world record was the highlight at the Ocean Oval in the Maryland Sire Stakes Showcase of Champions, with eight Sire Stakes finals held Thursday night (August 25) with purses totaling $200,000.



Jim Morand drove Googoo Gaagaa in the Maryland Sire Stakes Final for 2-year-old colt/gelding trotters, stopping the timer in 1:56, beating Brissot by 41 lengths and setting a new world record for 2-year-old colts on a half-mile oval, shattering the previous record set by Live Jazz (1:56.4) in 2010. Googoo Gaagaa (Cam’s Rocket–Kora’s Trotter) is now unbeaten in six races with lifetime earnings of $38,512. This fast trotter's sire is ironically a pacer.



“Googoo Gaagaa is an impressive trotter and good gaited with potential to break his own world record,” stated driver Jim Morand.



“Googoo Gaagaa is bringing sexy back,” stated owner and trainer Richard Hans.



In the Maryland Sire Stakes Final for 2-year-old filly trotters, Jacqueline Ingrassia drove Mrs Weasley to a 2:08.4 victory. The winner (Tejano-Pigwidgeon) is owned by Russell C. Williams and trained by Frank Ingrassia.



In the Maryland Sire Stake Final for 3-year-old filly pacers, Corey Callahan drove O’What a Stunner (Cam's Rocket-Radiant Breeze) in 1:54.4, a win for trainer Roger Hans and owner Thomas Cooke.



In the Maryland Sire Stake Final for 3-year-old filly trotters, Ray Robinson Jr. drove Fastas Lighting J (Go Get Lost-Party With Rose) to a 2:06.3 victory for trainer Linda MacDonald and owner Meadow Creek Stables, LLC.



In the Maryland Sire Stake Final for 3-year-old colt/gelding pacers, Jeff Fout drove Modern Day Clyde to a 1:56 win and returned $2.10. Modern Day Clyde (Bonnie And Clyde–Ashlee Lyn) is a gelding trained by Jeff Fout and owned by Joe and Joann Thomson.



Roger Plante, Jr. drove Red Oaks Chance (Wonder Dancer-Red Oaks Victory) to victory in 2:04 in the Maryland Sire Stakes Final for 3-year-old colt/gelding trotters and returned $34.20. Red Oaks Chance is trained by Linda MacDonald and owned by Meadow Creek Stables LLC.



Ross Wolfenden drove Brite Jet in 2:00.1 in the Maryland Sire Stakes Final for 2-year-old filly pacers. The daughter of Jet Pace-Brite Outlook is owned by Carol and James Atkinson.



Corey Callahan drove In Front Charlie to a 1:57.4 victory in the Maryland Sire Stakes Final for 2-year-old colt/gelding pacers and returned $3.20. The son of Up Front Charlie-Mark's Courtesy is owned by Dr. William Solomon.



Ocean Downs will be closed on Sunday (August 28) due to Hurricane Irene.



Ocean City, Md., will be issuing a phase 3 evacuation from the barrier island starting at 12 midnight on Thursday (August 25). Thursday night will be Ocean Downs' last harness race card of the year.



The simulcast area will be open on Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday while Hurricane Irene barrels through the eastern shore.
