When Yonkers Raceway returns from recess, it's going to be accompanied by a sizable purse increase.
Effective Friday, June 15, an approximate 20 per cent, across-the-board increase will come into effect.
The new purse structure is now going to range from $11,500 (for non-winners of two pari-mutuel pacers, and $12,500 claimers of both gaits) to $44,000 for the weekly trio of Open Handicaps (trotters, pacers and distaff pacers).
The current purse structure ranges from $9,500 to $36,000.
"We're committed to keeping our purses the best in the industry, and we encourage all horsemen to take a look at our product," Yonkers' general manager Bob Galterio said.
Yonkers will go on hiatus after Saturday night's program, which features both the Art Rooney and Lismore Paces. After the track's Friday and Saturday (June 15 and 16) programs, live racing will return to its usual Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday schedule effective Monday, June 18.
