>City Delight Sets Track Record In N.Y.S.S.

August may be done, but the state-breds' stay continues. Tuesday night, Yonkers Raceway offered up the $236,456 Frank Becerra Pace for two-year-old fillies, with four divisions going postward for $59,614 a pop.

A night after Jason Bartlett guided Anndrovette to a new local record for three-year-old pacing fillies (1:52.3), he broke out the Sharpee and wrote his name in the book again.

This time it was with City Delight, who drilled the third N.Y.S.S. division in 1:54.2. Leaving from post position two as the 17-10 favourite, City Delight rolled though weigh stations of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:25.2. She took 4-1/2 lengths into the lane before winning by that exact same margin. The Filly Princess (Wally Hennessey) was second, with Song In A Major (Jeff Gregory) third.

For City Delight, a daughter of Bettors Delight trained by Paul Kelley for co-owners W J Donovan and Joe Sbrocco, she returned $5.50 for her fourth win in eight seasonal starts.

"I was all set to give up the lead to Jeff (Gregory), but I saw his filly get rocky-gaited, so I just drove on," Bartlett said. "I've driven her in both (N.Y.S.S.) starts here, and she's impressed me."

The run of perfection is now eight for See You At Peelers (Jim Morrill, Jr.), who went the distance in the second of two non-wagering events. Leaving from post five, she went immediately to the lead before Drop The Ball (John Campbell) dropped in second. See You At Peelers put up intervals of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.2. Drop the Ball took her shot before the final turn, only to break for the second consecutive start against the same adversary.

Youre Too Funny (Ray Schnittker) grabbed the suddenly-available bridesmaid position. She was beaten 2-1/2 lengths in 1:56.1. Character Flaw (Jason Bartlett) was third.

For See You At Peelers, a Bettors Delight miss co-owned by Christina Takter and John & Jim Fielding and trained by Jimmy Takter, her frosh bankroll is up over $118,000.

Tuesday night's other N.Y.S.S. events were won by All About Kisses (1:55.4) and JK Owhatanite (1:55).

Thus week's New York Sire Stakes agenda concludes with Friday night's $282,548 Armand Palatucci Trot for three-year-old colts and geldings.
