Hippodrome 3R held its 44th program of the 2013 season on Sunday afternoon featuring a pair of distance races for open trotters and pacers to close out the meet.


The feature events, each carrying a purse of $8,000, were raced over 1-1/2 miles with fields of 12 horses.


Caroluzzo front-stepped his was to a three and a half length victory in the 1-1/2 mile trot over the "good" surface with Jocelyn Gendron at the lines. The four-year-old chestnut son of Musclesextrofinair prevailed over Vival Angus (Marie Claude Auger) and Erge Baboche (Stephane Brosseau) in 3:05.3 at odds of 11-1. Daniel Martin trains the winner for owner Michael Cote Gagnon of Terrebonne, Que.


Aarons Mattjesty and Stephane Brosseau, the second choice in the wagering, converted off a pocket trip to win the 1-1/2 mile pace in 3:02 by more than three lengths over the popular pacesetter Dont Rustle Myluck (Jocelyn Gendron). Honey Bum (Francis Picard) finished third. Yves Tessier trains the six-year-old Royal Mattjesty gelding for owner Francois Morin of Beauceville, Que.


Ferme Alain Martin's Beach Runner A M and driver Simon Allard later fought off The Real One (Mario Charron) to win a $8,000 Winner Over Pace by half a length in 1:58.1.


Sophomore trotter Aworthy Bi ran his win streak up to nine with a six and a half length romp in 2:02. Francis Picard was in the sulky for trainer Mario Viens and owner Elisabeth Carrier of St-Jean-Chrysostome, Que.


Driver Mario Charron added two more wins to his meet leading total during the 12-race card. He steered the Andre Larocque-trained trotter Anotherdayinthered to a quarter-length victory over La Neuvilloise (David Pilon) in the opener and then teamed up with leading trainer Eric Valiquette to win the ninth race with pacer Adkins Hanover. Charron has won 63 races at the Trois-Rivieres track this year while Valiquette has sent out 25 winners from his stable during the 2013 meet.
