Leading North Island harness racing trainer Barry Purdon completed a night to remember when Five Card Draw won the $180,000 Group One Sires Stakes Final at Addington Raceway this evening.

Purdon produced Cheer The Lady to win the Oaks earlier in the evening, following up that success with another big win on Canterbury soil.

A son of Bettor's Delight, Five Card Draw fought tenaciously right to the line to hold out the fast finishing Abraxas (Dexter Dunn) by three quarters of a length with a further one and a half lengths away to Cyamach which finished third. the winners time was a casual 2.26.6, home in 57.2 and 27.6 for the final 800 and 400.

"He's a gutsy wee horse and deserved to win that tonight, he went good last week as well and did feel extra tonight," said driver Brent Mangos. "He's a typical Bettor's Delight really, a perfect racehorse."

Five Card Draw took his bankroll past $200,000 with tonight's win, and must now be considered as a leading contender for Two Year Old Pacer of the Year.
