Winbak Farm of Canada is excited to introduce Lawless Shadow, p, 2, 1:52.1s; 3, 1:48.2f ($995,579), to its stallion roster in 2024.

“Lawless Shadow is the type of stallion that Winbak Farm loves to support,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “He has a strong pedigree, had an outstanding race career and is a fantastic looking individual.”

Lawless Shadow is held in high regard by his award-winning trainer, Dr Ian Moore, as well.

“We have trained Lawless Shadow from the time he was a yearling, he is a big, strong and powerful good-looking animal,” said Moore. “He has a terrific attitude in the barn and on the track and wherever he is.”

At 2, Lawless Shadow earned $307,624 and his victories included the Nassagaweya Stakes in 1:52.2, an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold leg in 1:52.1 and Ontario Grassroots leg.

“Lawless Shadow’s crop was very strong and included both Bulldog Hanover and Desperate Man, who he raced against and beat,” said Pat Woods, Winbak Farm of Canada Manager. “Lawless Shadow was impressive from his first ever lifetime start, winning a division of the Grassroots in 1:53, last quarter in :26.4 against Bulldog Hanover.”

He was second in the Metro Pace elimination (third in Final), Ontario Sire Stakes Gold leg and Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final.

“Lawless Shadow has been one of my favorites from the beginning,” said Moore. “He was an O’Brien Award Winner at 2 and has always been good-gaited and has not needed to wear any boots.”

Lawless Shadow is the richest son of stakes-winner Ladycino, p, 3, 1:54.2s; 1:52.1s ($488,477). She is the dam of 4 Winners of $100,000 and a daughter of the prolific Bettor’s Delight.

“Winbak Farm has strong connections to both Shadow Play and Bettor’s Delight,” said Jack Burke, Winbak Farm General Manager. “We are excited to offer a fast and great-looking stallion who combines the best traits of both stallions.”

At 3, Lawless Shadow earned $570,506. He won the $300,000 Max C Hempt Memorial Final in 1:48.2 against Perfect Sting, Hellabalou, and Southwind Gendry.

“My favorite win was the Hempt and it was his last 3-year-old start before his season got short,” said Moore. “He raced against great horses that year, including USHWA 3-Year-Old Colt Pacer of the Year, Perfect Sting, who he beat every start he raced against him that season.”

He was second placed first in the $700,000 Meadowlands Pace Final. He was also second in Meadowlands Pace elimination and Ontario Sire Stakes Gold leg.

“Lawless Shadow is a son of another favorite of mine, Shadow Play, who has done well as a sire and I also raced him,” said Moore. “He is from a daughter of Bettor’s Delight, who is number one as far as I am concerned.”

Lawless Shadow will stand for $4,500 CAD. Please visit www.winbakfarm.com for more information.

“Lawless Shadow had been a special horse every day in every way,” said Moore. “I hope he’ll be a successful sire and that in 3 years I will be training his babies like I trained his sire’s babies.”

“I like to 100% support stallions that I have trained and I have, like Shadow Play, State Treasurer, Malicious and Arthur Blue Chip,” said Moore. “Lawless Shadow inherited all of the good traits his father had as a World Champion and I am looking forward to supporting him.”

The experienced Winbak Farm team is available to help with hypothetical matings if needed.

“I believe that Lawless Shadow will cross well with Somebeachsomewhere line mares,” said Moore. “When looking for a commercial stallion, I want one who beat good horses, who was top class and had a strong powerful desire to win – Lawless Shadow has all these traits and loved doing it all. He was very special.”

Winbak Farm was the home of Lawless Shadow’s sire, Shadow Play, when he stood in Ontario, and is home to his grand-sire, Bettor’s Delight.

“Winbak Farm is proud to support the Ontario program with a quality lineup of stallions,” said Woods. “Lawless Shadow is an exciting new highlight to the Ontario program and we look forward to raising his foals and seeing them in the Winbak Winners Circle at Woodbine-Mohawk Park in a few years’ time.”

Winbak Farm thanks the connections of Lawless Shadow for the opportunity to stand the stallion at the Ontario farm.

“Lawless Shadow is an outstanding son of Shadow Play and we plan on supporting him with high-quality mares,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “We look forward to this new partnership with the connections of Lawless Shadow and are thrilled to be able to stand him at Winbak Farm of Canada.”
